Mental Health America of Oregon is now seeking a temporary, part-time Financial Accountant.

Title or Position: Financial Accountant  (Temporary Part-time)

Description of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:  Manages the financial/accounting functions for MHAO.  This is a “hands-on” position that manages and performs day-to-day activities to ensure that all financial/accounting data is collected, recorded, reconciled, balanced and reported regularly i.e. at least monthly.  The person in this position prepares a complete set of financial statements and analyses for Management and the Board of Directors.  This position is responsible for designing and maintaining internal control systems for all financial/accounting policies, activities, functions, processes, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). 

Financial Accountant Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Collaborates with the Executive Director to ensure that the agency business activities, financial policies, and associated procedures meet MHAO and grant requirements and are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
2. Manages and performs all accounting functions including: accounts payable, payroll, accounts receivable, cash cost allocations, all general ledger journal entries, reconciling, and balancing all subsidiary ledgers. Manages QuickBooks accounting system.
3. Manages and maintains appropriate internal controls for all accounting functions. 
4. Prepares information necessary for journal entries, financial analysis and reporting requests.   Ensures recurring GL Journal entries are accurate and maintained on a timely basis.
5. Reviews and analyzes accounts receivable regarding billings to ensure steady cash flow.  Monitors organizational cash flow.
6. Monitors all balance sheet accounts, information flow, and reporting requirements to verify that information is accurate and timely. 
7. Develops and maintains systems to ensure that financial transactions comply with established policies and procedures that include accounts payable, accounts receivable,  cash management,  and payroll. 
8. Prepares financial statements and internal financial reports as required by Management and Board of Directors. 
9. Coordinates annual budget development with staff. Prepares structure, compiles budget data and provides guidance to staff.
10. Provides information and training to staff as needed to make sound financial decisions.
11. Coordinates and prepares for annual financial audit.
12. Performs various assignments for departments as directed. 
13. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications:    Bachelor’s degree, five years non-profit accounting experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.  

Skills and knowledge required: Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and QuickBooks accounting software.  Adept knowledge of basic accounting functions as they relate to payroll, billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger.  Ability to interact professionally with all levels of employees, contractors, and vendors.  Excellent time management skills. 

Demonstrated non-profit and/or government sector accounting experience, federal grant financial management experience, excellent communication, training, and collaboration skills. Understanding of the consumer/survivor movement. 

Supervisory relationship: The Financial Accountant reports to the Executive Director.

Amount of travel: NA

Hours per Week:  This is a .5FTE, salaried, exempt position.

Salary range: $42,000 - 46,000  annual for 1.0 FTE. 

                      $21,000 – 23,000 annual for .5 FTE
